I grew up around sports and have a passion for teaching teams how to get out of their heads and into their hearts. It has been widely publicized that the 2017 NBA Champs, the Warriors were taught Mindfulness from their coach Steve Kerr and Phil Jackson used Mindfulness regularly to teach his winning teams the Lakers and Knicks. Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry talk openly about how Mindfulness and Meditation are a part of their athletic practice. In sports there is an opportunity to just be in the moment and to teach players not to get caught up in their Egos. Coaches like to talk about this idea of being in the zone, or playing in the zone. But how do we teach players to be out of their heads and in the moment, playing at their best without self consciousness? We can teach this through Mindfulness lessons. Through Mindfulness practice players find there is a relaxed concentration, a calm and composure, a sense of effortlessness, of being in the flow without the judgement. Players can enjoy the game regardless of the win or loss. Their self worth is not determined by if they win or score. When we are in the moment and absorbed with the activity, we play our best. There is a natural joy that flows and a compassion for ourselves and the other players. I teach Mindfulness workshops and classes for teams in every sport from Middle School, High School to College teams. Contact me to discuss how Mindfulness can bring an edge to your team's game.
